DMK made stamp release family function, says Jayalalithaa
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI,
AUG. 17.
The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, has criticised the manner in which the function to release a first day cover and a commemorative postal stamp to honour the late Union Minister, Murasoli Maran, was conducted here today.
In a statement here, she accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of converting the event into a "family function".
"A family invitation card for the release of this postal stamp of the Department of Posts of the Government of India has been widely circulated," she alleged.
Ms. Jayalalithaa also took exception to the decision to hold the function at a marriage hall in the Anna Arivalayam (DMK headquarters) complex.
Recalling the DMK leaders' participation in a function organised by the Chennai Port Trust recently, she said, "when it comes to the DMK and its president, M. Karunanidhi, every official event is for furthering the interests of his family."
