ANANTAPUR, AUG. 17. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is all set to stage a dharna here on Wednesday to protest against the killing of partymen in the district allegedly by Congress workers. Ten TDP leaders and activists have been killed in the district since the Congress returned to power. The TDP president and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, N. Chandrababu Naidu, will lead the protest to be staged in front of the camp office of the Superintendent of Police. According to party leaders, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu will reach here from Hyderabad by road around 1 p.m. and participate in the dharna. He will make the night halt in the town and leave for Bangalore by road the next day. The TDP is planning to mobilise partymen from all over the district and also from the neighbouring districts.
Charge against police
The TDP has levelled serious allegations against the district police accusing them of adopting partisan attitude, particularly in the killing at Gotkur village in Kudair mandal on June 25 and in Anantapur town three days ago. Reacting to the TDP charges, the Government had suspended an SI, a head constable and two constables and transferred a CI in the Gotkur case.
`Accused held'
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, told newspersons that the police were unbiased. They arrested 77 of the 78 accused in the killing of eight TDP men already and the accused were at large only in two cases.
