PATNA, AUG. 17 . Two notorious criminals were killed last night in an encounter with the police at Chajjubagh area in Bihar's Capital. The dead were identified as Putul Saw and Birju Kahar, wanted by police in connection with a number of cases relating to murder, kidnapping, extortion and intimidation. City police superintendent Amrit Raj said Putul was accused in the murder case of a doctor at Danapur last year. Police seized two pistols, a motorcycle and some live cartridges from the possession of the criminals. Acting on a tip off, a police team raided the hideout of criminals. The criminals tried to scare away the police team by firing at them and hurling bombs, Mr Raj said, adding that the police opened fire in retaliation and killed the two criminals around midnight. Six policemen were <243>injured in the bomb attack. -- UNI
