Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, AUG. 17. The sky will be partly cloudy with the possibility of showers in some areas during the evening or night. On Tuesday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded maximum temperatures of 38.5 and 39.6 degrees Celsius respectively and a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The humidity was 76 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in Park Town, Kondithope and Taramani areas on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

On Thursday power supply will be interrupted in parts of Nanganallur between 7 and 7.30 p.m. and 11and 11.30 p.m., in parts of Nanganallur and Vanuvampet (7.30 to 8 p.m.; 9 to 9.30 p.m.; 10.30 to 11 p.m.), in some parts of Nanganallur and T.G. Nagar (8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m and 9.30 to 10 p.m.) and parts of Nanganallur and Moovarasampet (8.30 to 9 p.m., 10 to 10.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. to midnight.)

Pollution level

The respirable suspended particulate matter was within the permissible limit of 100 mg/cm at both Anna Nagar residential area and Vallalar Nagar traffic intersection with 90 mg/cm. The 24-hour survey was conducted on Monday by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board under its Chennai Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme.

Temple cleaned

About 75 volunteers of SMILE, an NGO striving for public welfare, cleaned the Audi Kesava Perumal temple and the Vedantha Desikar Devasthanams Shrinivasa Perumal temple at Mylapore on Monday. People interested in participating in the activities of SMILE can contact ph: 9884199284/24323581.

Dental camp

A total of 330 children participated in a free dental check up camp conducted by the Baskar Dental Foundation on Sunday. The participants were given a thorough check up and the required medicines such as multivitamin and calcium tablet apart from pamphlets on the `Do's and Don'ts on dental health.

Blood donation

Sixty volunteers donated blood at a blood donation camp organised by the Youth Red Cross Society of Jaya Govind Hari Gopal Agarwal Agarsen College on August 13.

Similar camps were organised by Kanmalai United Sports and DYFI, Madras Mar Thoma Syrian Church and Karthikeyan Moulds and Dyes on Sunday as a part of the Independence Day celebrations. The camps were jointly organised by the Madras Voluntary Blood Bank and Cross Blood Foundation.

Diabetes detection camp

Around 250 persons attended a free diabetes detection and cardiac diseases management camp organised by the Indian Overseas Bank- PSBB Branch-K.K. Nagar along with Aretaeus Pharmaceuticals on Sunday.
