CHENNAI, AUG. 17. The city police on Monday seized about 2,000 pirated video compact discs (VCD) and digital versatile discs (DVDs) of new Tamil films, including `Vasoolraja MBBS,' that was released less than a week ago. The police also seized for the first time in the State, DVD writers meant for making the pirated discs. The seizure was made by a team from the North Beach police station following the arrest of J. Dawood of Kellys who came to Burma Bazaar to supply some pirated discs. The team later conducted a raid at a shop in Kellys area from where they seized the copiers, discs and printers for making copies of movie labels. From the shop, the team seized the pirated discs of recently released films, including `Four Students,' `Azhagiya Theeye' and `Shock.' Two others - A. Abdullah and E. Abdul Hamid, were also arrested. Meanwhile, members of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council met the City Police Commissioner, K. Natarajan, this morning and urged him to take strong action to check video piracy. K. Muralidharan, president of the Council, said the government should take more stringent measures to curb piracy. He was accompanied by actor and producer Prakash Raj.
