BANGALORE, AUG. 17. The Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, on Tuesday directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to restore the roads that it had dug up in the new wards for laying water and sanitary lines. During his inspection of developmental works in Govindrajnagar and Moodalpalya wards, the Mayor expressed displeasure at the poor condition of the Kamakshipalya Main Road. "According to our contract with the BWSSB, it is its responsibility to restore the roads that it has dug up. Direct the BWSSB officials to take up the work immediately," he told the jurisdictional BMP officials.
Complaint
Earlier, residents complained to the Mayor that the Kamakshipalya-Magadi Main Road had become unusable. "The trenches dug up by the BWSSB have not been filled for months, causing inconvenience to motorists," the residents said. Mr. Ramesh identified property tax defaulters and commercial centres which did not have a valid licence certificate. He recommended action against the officials who allowed the tax evasion.
Site for school
Later, the Mayor visited Kaveripura and asked the engineers to construct a retaining wall to the main storm-water drain. The Mayor also said he would write to the Bangalore Development Authority seeking the transfer of a civic amenity site in Kaveripuram to the BMP to develop a playground and a school there. He also visited the Referral Hospital at Hosahalli in Govindrajnagar and appreciated its maintenance. While inspecting Bhairaveswarangar in Moodalpalya, the Mayor noticed that a 500-metre-long retaining wall had to be built immediately so that water would not enter houses built close to drains that lead to the Vrishabhavathi valley. He also visited the new BMP high school and the Nirmala Shouchalayas on 4th Main Road in the area. He directed BMP officials to initiate action against people who demolished the toilet complex opposite the ward office about seven months ago.
