Two robbed of cash, jewellery

BANGALORE, AUG. 17. Two men attacked a youth and his girlfriend and robbed them of cash, gold jewellery and a mobile phone in Kengeri police station limits on Monday night. Pushpakanth of Grihalakshmi Layout had parked his car at Visvesvaraya Layout and was speaking to his friend, who was in the vehicle, around 7.30 p.m. when the robbers attacked them, the police said.

The robbers accosted Pushpakanth and asked him to give them the car key. When he refused, they stabbed him in the thigh and robbed him of Rs. 3,500 and a gold chain. They threatened the girl and took away her mobile phone and a gold chain, the police said. The Kengeri police have registered a case.

Woman ends life

Shashikala (20), who was pregnant, reportedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her house in Ashoknagar on Saturday night.

Shashikala's husband, Satish, who tried to save her, suffered burns and was admitted to hospital, the police said. His condition is said to be critical.

The police said Shashikala committed suicide because of a quarrel over a minor issue with Satish.

The Ashoknagar police have registered a case.

Pedestrian dies

Srinivasa (40) of Kavalbyrasandra was killed on the spot when a motorcycle hit him on S.C. Road on Monday night. The Seshadripuram traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the motorcyclist.

Vehicles recovered

The Rajagopalanagar police on Tuesday arrested Narasimha Murthy (27) of Magadi Road and recovered from him 26 two-wheelers worth Rs. 10 lakhs. The police said that the accused had allegedly stolen the vehicles from Vijaynagar, Seshadripuram, R.T. Nagar, Kamakshipalya, Peenya and Rajagopalanagar police station limits.

Burglary

Burglars broke into Pharmacy India Limited on Bellary Road on Monday night and took away computers worth Rs. 1.75 lakhs.

The Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Woman, son sentenced

The Judge of the 6th Fast-track Court, B. Ramareddy, has sentenced Ramamma and her son, M. Rajanna, to nine years' rigorous imprisonment and fined them Rs. 3,500 each in a dowry death case.

They harassed Rajanna's wife, Sunanda (22), asking her to bring a bigger dowry. Sunanda committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her house in K.P. Agrahara police station limits on June 7, 2003. The K.P. Agrahara police had arrested Ramamma and Rajanna, and filed a chargesheet against them in the court.
