By Our Special Correspondent VILLUPURAM, AUG. 18. Sait alias Govindan (30), a farmer, and his wife Rajalakshmi (26), were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Moorarpalayam near here on Tuesday morning. Police said while Govindan's head was found smashed, while Rajalakshmi's body was floating in a well, with her mouth gagged and hands tied. The couple used to irrigate their farm (some distance away from their house) in the night and return home soon after the work was completed. But after leaving their house on Monday night, they did not turn up, and having waited till forenoon Tuesday, their relatives grew suspicious and went to the farm looking for them. They saw the body of Govindan with severe head injuries and the body of Rajalakshmi in a well about a kilometre from there.
Dies in clash
In a clash between two groups of fishermen, Velu (35), was done to death, and nine others suffered injuries at Ekkiarkuppam near Marakkanam. The police said rivalry existed between the groups led by Sekar and Subramanian over fishing rights. The enmity came to a head when Subramanian conducted the local festival without involving Sekar. When Sekar and his supporters approached Subramanian staking his right, they were assaulted. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Pondicherry.
