Erode
By Our Staff Reporter
ERODE, AUG. 18. All the vacancies of teachers in minority-run educational institutions would be filled up soon, the State Minorities Commission Chairperson, Sister Annamma Philip, said today. She was speaking to presspersons in Erode after holding discussions with various representatives of minorities. She said that for the first time in the history of Tamil Nadu, the State Minorities Commission was formed with doctors and educationalists.
Assurance
She said she had received several representations about vacancies of teachers in minorities-run educational institutions. The Government would make a positive announcement on filling up of these vacancies, she added. The Chairperson and the Vice-Chairman of the Commission, T. Kamal Sheriff, said that already 85 per cent of the Muslims, Christians and other minorities were in the BC, MBC and SC list. So there was no need for a separate five per cent reservation for Muslims. However, if Muslims represent for separate reservation, they would forward the same to the Government. Already a writ was pending in the court regarding separate reservation for Muslims. After disposal of the same, they hoped that the Government would take appropriate action on the issue. The Chairperson said that the Commission had visited more than 15 districts. Some minority communities were not aware of the Government schemes for them, she noted. The Chairperson lauded the Erode administration for maintaining communal harmony and noted that there was no communal clash in the district.
Loan granted
She said that Rs. 20 lakhs had been granted to 56 minority communities as loan by the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes and Minorities Economic Development Corporation for various activities. The Collector, D. Karthikeyan, explained the steps taken by the district administration for the uplift of minorities in the district. The Commission members, P. Goutam Vaid and Manjeet Singh Sethi, also spoke. The Commission received several petitions from minorities seeking separate graveyard in some villages, employment opportunities and house site pattas. The Chairperson and members also verified the functioning of schools and colleges run by minorities.
