East Bengal drubs Peerless
KOLKATA,
AUG. 18.
Defending champion Kingfisher East Bengal returned to winning ways thrashing Peerless SC 4-0 in its ninth round match of the Calcutta Football League's super division at home on Wednesday.
Having been held goalless in its last match by Mohammedan AC, the red-and-gold brigade came back strongly with its foreign imports Brazilian Douglas da Silva and Nigerian Lewis Aniweta contributing greatly in realising the big win.
The goal rush began in injury time of the first session when Douglas nodded home a corner taken by Malswamtulunga. Another corner by the Mizoram player fetched the second goal in the 51st minute and this time it was Aniweta who found the net. Douglas made it 3-0 volleying home a Chandan Das assist in the 66th minute, while Sasthi Duley sealed the scoring in the 86th minute with a spectacular lob over the opponent custodian, Arijit Sengupta.
The win helped East Bengal net 21 points from six wins and three draws. Our Sports Reporter
