Samsung's award for Rathore

CHENNAI, AUG. 18. Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will receive a Rs. 10 lakh cash award, for his silver-medal winning effort, from Samsung, the official sponsor of the Indian contingent to the Olympics. He will be the first recipient of the Samsung Olympic Maharatna Award.

The award is part of the scheme that Samsung and Indian Olympic Association announced prior to the Olympics, under which Samsung India will give cash award of Rs. 15 lakh to the gold medal winner, Rs. 10 lakh to the silver medallist and Rs. 5 lakh to the bronze medallist at the Athens Olympics, according to a company press release.

Mr. K.S. Kim, president and CEO, South West Asia, Samsung India Electronics Ltd, said "My heartiest congratulations to Rajyavardhan Rathore on his sterling performance."
