Snag delays Singapore-bound passengers
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
AUG. 18.
The Indian Airlines IC-555 service from Chennai to Singapore could not be operated today following a technical snag.
One hundred and fortyfour passengers had checked in for this flight scheduled to depart at 0050 hours. The cancellation of the service also left passengers, booked from Singapore, on the return IC-556 flight stranded for some time.
An Indian Airlines release did not elaborate on the specifics of the snag in Airbus A-300.
While 51 of the passengers were sent to Singapore via Bangkok aboard the Indian Airlines flight IC-979, 73 were flown to Kuala Lumpur by the Indian Airlines flight IC-955 and provided "immediate onward connection to Singapore." Twenty other passengers were accommodated in a hotel and flown to Singapore by the Indian Airlines flight IC-557.
In the return direction, Indian Airlines service IC-958 was rerouted from Singapore to Bangalore via Chennai. Fiftythree passengers arrived here by the service, while 100 others stayed in a hotel in Singapore and were being flown to Chennai by Indian Airlines IC-558, the release said.
Sources in Indian Airlines said the aircraft, which developed the snag came to Chennai from Mumbai last night. It was rectified and the aircraft flew to Colombo.
