CHENGALPATTU, AUG. 18. The district police have made elaborate arrangements at Thirukazhukundram for devotees to have a hassle-free dip at the sangutheertham tank tomorrow night for the `Sangutheertha Pushkaram.' Devotees will be allowed to take a dip on the western and northern banks of the tank. Police divers with lifejackets will be patrolling in two boats to rescue devotees who might drift deep into the tank. Sprinkler systems are to be installed on the tank bund for the benefit of the aged persons. The police will be positioned at strategic points to ensure free and quick movement of crowd in the town and along the `girivalam' route. The Kancheepuram District Administration has declared a local holiday for August 20 for the pushkaram. The Government offices and educational institutions in the district will however function on September 11, according to a press release.
