This Day That Age
The Madras Government have been informed by the Government of India that about 5,000 "repatriates" may be expected in the near future from Ceylon. Mr. K. Kamaraj, Chief Minister, replying to inquiries by pressmen in Madras on August 18 said that these 5,000 formed a part of about 25,000 persons to be ultimately repatriated to India. Mr. Kamaraj said that there was no information as to the type of people who were being repatriated and their occupation in the island. "Until we know what type of people are coming back, we will not be in a position to decide what measures we may have to take, or even whether any measures would be necessary, by way of relief," he said.
