BELLARY, AUG. 19. The Lorry Owners Association in Bellary district has decided not participate in the nationwide strike, according to the Deputy Commissioner, S.N. Jayaram. The decision was announced at a meeting convened by Mr. Jayaram to discuss the issue with the lorry owners here on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner complimented the president of the Association, Venkatarao, for deciding against participating in the strike. He said that there would not be any hindrance in supplying essential commodities to the people. Mr. Jayaram instructed the officials of Police Department, the Regional Transport Authority, and Food and Civil Supplies to initiate action against those illegally vending petrol and diesel in the border areas and also against those using adulterated petrol. He urged them to book cases against those violating the rules and, if necessary, cancel their licences.
