Entries for Rural IT Quiz to be submitted by August 23

BANGALORE, AUG. 19. The Rural IT Quiz for students of classes eight to 12 from the districts will be held for the fifth year as part of the Bangalore IT.com 2004 to be held from November 1 to November 5.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is organising the popular event in collaboration with the State Information Technology Department.

M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, Secretary, Information Technology, and N.G. Subramaniam, Head Bangalore Operations of TCS, said the quiz would have a preliminary round of 20 questions, to be published in newspapers on Friday.

Students should submit entries to their school to be sent to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction by August 23.

Zonal finals

After the preliminary round, the top 50 teams from each district will qualify for the zonal finals.

For the first time, the zonal finals will be held in eight new locations: Bijapur on October 7, Bagalkot on October 8, Belgaum on October 11, Udupi on October 14, Davangere on October 18, Chitradurga on October 19 and Kolar on October 21.

The grand finale will be in Bangalore on November 2.

There is no entry fee and any number of two-member teams can participate. However, students of schools/PU colleges in the city corporation limits of Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum and Gulbarga cannot participate.

Results

The results of the preliminary round and the venues for the zonal events will be announced at the offices of deputy commissioners, the chief executives of zilla panchayats, deputy directors of public instruction, block education officers and in schools and colleges.

TCS will offer scholarships to winners. The teams standing 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the zonal level will get scholarships of Rs. 12,000, Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 4,000 each. At the State-level finals, the three top teams will receive Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 each. Last year about 52,000 students from across the State participated in the quiz.
