No arrest warrant pending against Taslimuddin: Bihar

PATNA, AUG. 19. The Bihar Government has sent a report to the Centre clarifying that no arrest warrant is pending against the Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Md. Taslimuddin, in the criminal case filed against him in Araria district.

The Centre had called for a detailed report in connection with the case in the Araria police station in the aftermath of the demand for his arrest by the Opposition parties and condemnation of the State Government's move to drop the pending case against Mr. Taslimuddin.

In his report to the Union Home Ministry, the State Home Secretary, Girish Shankar, recounted the turn of events right from the filing of the case by Manzar Alam against Mr. Taslimuddin and 12 others accusing them of attempting to murder him. At least one of the accused was arrested in 2002.

At one point, Mr. Alam questioned the supervision note of police which led to the issuance of the order to attach Mr. Taslimuddin's property. But he later expressed his willingness to withdraw the case.

Eventually, the report said, the Government considered the public prosecutor's plea to drop the case and gave its green signal. Consequent to which the First Class Judicial Magistrate stayed the arrest warrant and the order to attach Mr. Taslimuddin's property.
