Bonus orders issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM AUG. 19. The Government has issued orders for the payment of bonus and special festival allowance to Government employees and pensioners. The number of the order is GO(P) no.370/2004/Fin and dated August 12. According to the order, the pay of those drawing total salary not exceeding Rs. 5,000 excluding interim relief, HRA and other compensatory allowances (Rs. 4,250 in the case of those drawing salary at old rates) will be considered as Rs. 2,500 and they will be paid one month's salary as bonus. Those drawing a total salary of over Rs. 5,000 (over Rs. 4,250 as per old scale) will be paid special festival allowance of Rs. 1,000. The other categories of employees mentioned in the order will get special festival allowance ranging from Rs. 175 to Rs. 400. Service pensioners who are not eligible for bonus or festival allowance will get special festival allowance of Rs. 275. Family pensioners will also be given special festival allowance of Rs. 175. The order is applicable to apart from Government employees, the staff of aided educational institutions and full-time contingent employees.

Salary disbursal for KSEB staff

The salary for the current month of the Electricity Board employees will be disbursed on August 23. The PTC employees and CLR workers functioning on the basis of monthly wages will also get their emoluments on the same day. The pension and family pension for September will be disbursed on August 25.

Engineering course: lateral entry

Those who wish to gain lateral entry in the management seats in the Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram should report at the institution with the hall ticket of the entrance examination conducted by the Director of Technical Education as well as original documents at 10 a.m. on August 25. The selected persons will be admitted to the third semester of the B.Tech course in one of the following branches — Electronics and communication, Computer science, IT, Mechanical automobile and Mechanical production engineering. The selected persons should remit a fee of Rs. 44,150 on the day of admission.

Restraint on film chamber

KOCHI AUG. 19. A Munsiff court here restrained the Kerala Film Chamber headed by its president, Siyad Kokker, from holding the annual general body meeting for electing its office-bearers. The meeting is scheduled for August 21. The interim order came on a petition filed by C.V. Ramakrishnan who was contesting for the post of general secretary.

Vijayan still critical

HYDERABAD Aug 19. The eminent Malayalam writer and cartoonist, O.V. Vijayan, continued to be on the ventilator with no significant improvement in his condition, for the ninth day today. Doctors said that he was too weak to breathe on his own. The critical condition of the writer has prompted the doctors at the Care Hospitals, where Mr. Vijayan was admitted on August 10, to consider the possibilities of a tracheostomy, a surgically created opening in the neck which allows direct access to the trachea (the breathing tube) which will be maintained open with a hollow tube called a tracheostomy tube. The tube can be variably permanent, depending on the response and improvement in the health condition of Mr. Vijayan.

Sonia to open Guruvarsham

KOLLAM Aug. 19. The AICC President, Sonia Gandhi, will inaugurate the year-long 150th Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations, Guruvasham 150, at a function here at 3 p.m. on August 29. The function, to be presided over by the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, will be held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium (Sree Narayana Nagar).

Anniversary

KOLLAM Aug. 19. The Vishwasamskarika Navothana Kendram today organised a `navapoojitha bhakthi yatra' here as a lead up to the 78th birth anniversary observance of Navajyothi Sri Karunakara Guru at Shanthigiri Ashramam on August 21. The yatra commenced from the Shanthigiri Ashramam at Polaythodu in the city.

Bank adalat

At the adalat organised jointly by the Federal Bank and the District Legal Services Authority here on Tuesday, 53 bank loan cases amounting to over Rs. 1 crore were settled. The adalat was held at nine booths and was led by the District Judge, K. Chenthamarakshan.

Dharna

PATHANAMTHITTA Aug. 19. The NGO Union organised a dharna in front of the Mini Civil Station here today to press its demand to ensure the promotion prospects of class IV employees. The former secretary of the union, G. Sasidharan, inaugurated the dharna.
