THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 19. Discussions between the Education Minister, Nalakath Sooppy, and the Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University, Syed Iqbal Hasnain, failed to resolve the discord in the university over termination of services of the Director of School of Distance Education, K. Kunhikrishnan.
Chancellor petitioned
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that he had removed Mr. Kunhikrishnan from the post on the basis of legal advice on the status of the post and age of his retirement. Mr. Kunhikrishnan has appealed to the Chancellor, R.L. Bhatia, challenging the Vice-Chancellor's order. His contention is that he was a member of the teaching staff, and hence had not reached the age of superannuation. (The retirement age of teaching staff is 60 years while that of non-teaching staff is 55 years.)
