Man hacked to to death in faction feud

By Our Special Correspondent

ONGOLE, AUG. 19. In a gruesome murder, Attla Bali Reddy was hacked to death at Adda road junction in Santhamagulur at 9.30 pm on Wednesday, shattering the year-long peace prevailing in the faction-ridden village.

According to the police, about six persons armed with deadly weapons came in a Tata Sumo and attacked Bali Reddy. They stabbed him indiscriminately due to which he died on the spot. Santhamagulur witnessed eight murders in the last 13 years following faction feuds between two groups led by Gaddam Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy (Chinna mutha) and Satyanarayana Reddy (Pedda mutha). The village was divided into two groups during the byelection in 1991.

Compromise in 2003

Following the murder of Attla Sankara Reddy belonging to Chinna mutha at Ongole last year, the former Superintendent of Police, Charu Sinha, brought the two groups to the negotiating table and worked out a compromise. However, the murder of Bali Reddy, brother of Sankara Reddy, on Wednesday showed that it was only a temporary truce.
