HYDERABAD, AUG. 19. The Cabinet meeting held here on Thursday took a serious note of the negative campaign launched by the TDP against the Congress Government. Raising the matter after completion of the regular agenda, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is said to have asked his colleagues to pay the TDP back in the same coin. Recalling the resounding victory of the Congress in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, Dr. Reddy reiterated that the Government was firmly committed to implement all its promises.
Transparency
Transparency was the key to governance and the Government had set a high benchmark through its pro-people agenda, which was not to the liking of the TDP. The TDP chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had become desperate and was using the media to belittle the new Government and that should be effectively countered, he is said to have remarked. Ministers were asked to dig into the past to let people compare how corrupt and authoritarian the TDP regime was. This was more in reference to the irrigation projects.
Irrigation projects
The meeting, which expressed satisfaction at the pace that the Chief Minister has set for the completion of irrigation projects, also lauded the pre-bid tender system to select companies to offer the project works. Unlike in the past, no favour was being bestowed on any one nor was there any room for corruption in the new system as the only criteria adopted was the ability of companies to take up the projects. The emphasis on quality was also a step in the right direction, the Ministers felt, it is learnt.
