CHANDIGARH, AUG.19. The Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh, and the National Institute of Science and Development Studies (NISTAD), New Delhi, are jointly organising an international conference here next March on "Science and Technology --New Challenges in the Context of Globalisation''. The conference will be the first of its kind aimed at making the people living in other countries aware of the tremendous progress made by India in different sectors of economy like information technology, drugs, pharmaceuticals and automobiles. A Steering Committee, headed by the Haryana Governor, A.R. Kidwai, has been constituted by CRRID to organise the conference. Mohsin U. Khan, Deputy Director of NISTAD, has been appointed Coordinator of the committee. The other members of the Committee are Rashpal Malhotra, founder Director, CRRID; Rajesh Kochhar, Director, NISTAD; Romilla Dubey, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Punjab; Veena Eagleton, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Haryana; S.K.Mangal, Senior Adviser, CRRID; M. Satyapal, Senior Adviser, CRRID; Virender Singh, Managing Director, Punjab Recorders Limited and Vijai Vardhan, Secretary to Haryana Governor. The conference will be attended by delegates from Germany, Finland, the UK, the US, Kuwait, China, Korea, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Entrepreneurs intending to invest in India would also attend the conference. The valedictory session will be held in Delhi and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, is likely to meet the foreign and Indian delegates.
