Warning against rabies

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 19. The Health Department today issued a warning directing citizens to be vigilant against rabies. An official press release quoting the Health Director, B. Mahilamani, urged dog and cat bite victims to report to the nearest public health centre for treatment. Government hospitals in the district were equipped with stocks of anti-rabies vaccine, which would be administered free of cost. District hospitals have been supplied with stocks for 100 to 200 doses daily, the note added.

Directive

to KSEB

The Lok Ayukta has issued an order directing the KSEB not to disconnect power supply to consumers who fail to pay inflated bills after installation of electronic meters. The verdict was issued on a case filed by the Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) pointing out that many KSEB section offices were disregarding an earlier order which stated that consumers need pay only the amount in the previous bill.

BMS call

The State secretary of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sanghn(BMS), S. Durairaj, today urged the State and Central Governments to correct their "anti-people" policies. Inaugurating a dharna organised by the Sangh in front of the RMS office at Thampanoor, he said the fuel price hike, reduction in PF interest and the bid to privatise public sector units had strained the economy and burdened employees.
