Lorry owners not to take part in transport stir
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
AUG. 19.
Dissension has appeared in the ranks of the road transport organisations over the proposed indefinite strike starting from Saturday morning with the Hyderabad Lorry Owners Association declaring its non-participation in the stir.
It has also sought police protection from the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, to operate its services during the strike period. In a press release here on Thursday, S.A. Haleem, General Secretary, charged the Hyderabad Goods Transport Association of including their name without taking their consent.
Mr. Haleem felt there was no need to take part in the strike, as the service tax does not affect owners and drivers. He pointed out lorry owners in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry were also staying away from the stir called by the All India Motor Transport Congress.
