Rs. 200 crores for youth empowerment

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, AUG. 20. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today announced his intention to allocate "not less than Rs. 200 crores" for youth empowerment and welfare when he released the draft youth policy for public debate here to mark the 60th birth anniversary of the late Rajiv Gandhi.

Dr. Reddy garlanded a Rajiv Gandhi portrait, and recalled the yeoman service rendered by him for the youth by carving out a dominant role for them in nation building. It was with the entry of Rajiv Gandhi that young blood was inducted into the Congress, Dr. Reddy said, adding that he was chosen APPC-I president when he was only 33. This was in striking contrast to the Congress habit of allowing even those aged 42 as Youth Congress presidents while the maximum upper age limit for the post was 35 years.
