CUDDALORE, AUG. 20. Seedlings will be supplied at subsidised rates to expand the area under cashew, the District Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, said today. Addressing a farmers' grievances day here, Mr. Bedi said it had been decided to bring 600 hectares under cashew for which the Government had allocated Rs. 20.2 lakhs. Grafted cashew seedlings would be supplied at the rate of 200 per hectare at a nominal price of Re. 1 each, against the original cost of Rs. 17 each. Under the integrated fruit crop development scheme, 200 hectares would be brought under guava and 20 under mango. The seedlings of fruit-bearing trees would be supplied at subsidised price (25 per cent), with a maximum of Rs. 1,750 per hectare under guava and Rs. 2,500 per hectare under mango. The Government had sanctioned Rs. 4 lakhs for the purpose, the Collector said.
