KOCHI, AUG. 20. The city police solved a major robbery case with the arrest of the main accused in the theft of cashew nuts worth Rs. 34 lakhs and a container truck costing Rs. 5 lakhs. The container truck along with the consignment had been stolen from its parking spot at Willingdon Island. Shiburaj (34) alias Kachara Shibu, of Vattathara Veedu, Kuthiathodu, Cherthala who had been residing at Valavilparambil Veedu at Edakochi, was arrested at Thoppumpady on Thursday. On interrogation, he confessed to stealing the truck parked in front of Ernakulam Wharf on July 29 at 1.30 a.m. along with his friend Sajith. The truck was taken to boat jetty near the Edakochi bus stand. The truck contained 700 boxes of cashew nuts, which was a consignment from St. Gregorious Cashew Industries, Puthoor, Kollam.
Two arrested
Two persons were arrested today on charges of drug peddling. Nissar (31) of Elamkulam and Manoj (24) of Maneed were arrested from near Minus Bar at Kaloor.
