CHENNAI, AUG. 21. The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) is conducting a postgraduate course on diabetes from September 24 to 26 as part of training more physicians to tackle diabetes effectively. This is the second such course being organised in association with the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The course will be attended by over 1,200 delegates from India and abroad. The international faculty will comprise 10 eminent scientists from the United States, including Alan D. Cherrington, president of the ADA. Fortytwo senior diabetologists from all over India will serve on the national faculty. V. Mohan, Rema Mohan, M. Balasubramanyam, V. Somasekaran and Rekha Thankappan of the M.V.Diabetes Centre will be the local organisers. The course will include lectures, meet-the-expert session, panel discussions and live demonstrations of emerging techniques in diabetes management. The MDRF and the ADA will also hold a one-day workshop for diabetes educators on September 23. The programme is open to diabetes educators, nurses, dieticians, home science graduates and others working in the field of diabetes education. The international faculty includes Mary Austin, president, American Association of Diabetes Educators and Catherine Tibbetts, president of ADA's health care section.
