CHITRADURGA, AUG. 22. Mudenur Sanganna, expert on folklore, has called upon people to adopt "book culture" to address problems that had cropped up during the transition period of globalisation and privatisation. He released six books of Lohia Prakashana and inaugurated the Kuvempu literary festival here on Sunday. The programme was jointly organised by Lohia Prakashana, Bellary, and Abhiruchi Cultural Group, Chitradurga. Magu Malagide Edeya Mele by M.D. Okkunda, Chakri Nimbajja by Brahmadev Hadalagi, Prakshubda Alegalu by Prahlad Agasanakatte, Belagina Beragu by G.N. Mallikarjuna, Rasidi Tikitu by H.N. Surakoda, and Naduhagalinalli Kandeelugalu by Rajendra Chenni, were released. Mr. Sanganna said that Kuvempu's works were relevant even today. "Kuvempu was a great visionary. He not only propagated the love of the land and language through his poetic works, but also implemented them. He had asked a university, which conferred an honorary doctorate on him, to make Kannada the medium of instruction. He refused to attend the convocation otherwise," he said. K. Chidananda Gowda, Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University and Kuvempu's son-in-law, who presided over the function, spoke about "Pancha mantra and sapta sutras," which Kuvempu believed would outlive his works. D.S. Nagabhushan, Lingadevaru Halemane, and Rajendra Chenni spoke on the various facets of Kuvempu.
