JAIPUR, AUG. 22. The Rajasthan Labour Minister, Kirorilal Meena, today announced that the State Government would reconstitute the committee on the implementation of the recommendations of the Manisana Singh Wage Board for journalists and non-journalist employees of newspaper establishments. The term of the committee, appointed by the previous Congress-led Government, has since expired. Addressing a meeting of the Press Trust of India Workers' Union (Northern Region) here, Mr. Meena said the Government was committed to protecting the interests of those working in the newspaper industry and wanted all the newspapers in the State to implement the Wage Board's recommendations. "The committee will look into all aspects of the Wage Board's recommendations and make all efforts to ensure that the journalists and non-journalist employees get their due,'' Mr. Meena said while noting that the Manisana Singh Wage Board had made its recommendations in 1998. The Minister said the journalists formed an important link between the Government and the people and their grievances would be settled to enable them to serve the society effectively. "I have myself been associated with the labour movement and I know the problems faced by workers in various industries,'' he said. The Minister of State for Urban Development, Pratap Singh Singhvi, also addressed the valedictory session of the two-day meeting.
