CUDDAPAH, AUG. 22. The Joint Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, on Sunday exhorted people not to look down upon the visually challenged persons and cause them mental anguish, but extend all possible help to help them lead independent lives.
Eye camp opened
She inaugurated a free eye camp for visually challenged students, organised by L.V. Prasad Eye Hospital, Vijayadurga, the Andhra Pradesh Blind Welfare Cooperative Society and Rotary Eye Hospital, Proddatur, at the Government School for the Blind at Sankarapuram here. Addressing the blind students, she asked the teachers to play a key role in shaping up the future of the visually challenged students. The District Revenue Officer, G. Joshi Babu, advised students to pursue higher education without being cowed down by their handicap. The Chief Legal Advisor of Vijayadurga Andhra Pradesh Blind Welfare Cooperative Society, Sumalini Reddy, exhorted students to imbue good conduct and hard work and pave way for their future.
Clothes distributed
The Director of Mega Memory and Mind Improvement course, E. Vijaya Kumar, observed that handicapped persons have a strong determination to achieve success. He asked the students to think of their contribution to society, rather than merely ponder over the extent of Government assistance. The dignitaries gave away clothes and blankets to the visually challenged students. Nagasuresh of Rotary Eye Hospital, examined the patients on the scope for reviving their sight. Later, the DRO went round the school and hostel, which required repairs. He enquired about the food being provided for them.
