'Nation needs good scientists at top'

BANGALORE, AUG. 22. The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Ocean Development, Kapil Sibal, said here today that the nation did not have enough good scientists at the top, and required a new paradigm for scientific institutions that encouraged talented scientists.

The Minister was here for the "official" inaugural flight of Saras, the 14-seater light transport civilian aircraft, designed by National Aerospace Laboratories, a Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) lab here. The inaugural flight took place earlier in the day.

Autonomy

At a press conference, Mr. Sibal said: "We need a number of top quality educational institutions" and that it was important to encourage their autonomy".
