Nanjundappa report will be implemented, says Sindhia

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 22. The Minister for Large and Medium-scale Industries, Infrastructure, and Civil Aviation, P.G.R. Sindhia, today said that the State Government would implement the report of the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee on Regional Imbalances and convene a roundtable of industrialists to review the implementation of the Sarojini Mahishi report.

Inaugurating the central office of the Kannada Chaluvali Kendra Samiti led by the former MLA, G. Narayana Kumar, here, the Minister said he had a master plan to transform Karnataka into a highly industrialised State on a par with Gujarat and also solve the unemployment problem of Kannadigas.

Responding to the demands put forth by Mr. Narayana Kumar on solving the problems faced by Kannadigas in the State and outside, Mr. Sindhia said with the implementation of the Nanjundappa Committee report several backward districts would witness development.

Border row

On the fears expressed in some quarters that Maharashtra was approaching the Supreme Court on the border issue, the Minister said Kannadigas would never hand over Belgaum to any one.

Even if Maharashtra went to the apex court, the State Government would appoint good advocates to argue its case.

Goa. Govt. criticised

Mr. Sindhia, who recently led a delegation to Goa following the demolition of houses of Kannadigas on the Baina Beach, said the four lakh Kannadigas there were in a pathetic state and blamed the Manohar Parrikar Government for it.

Alleging that the Goa Government had misinterpreted the High Court order on the demolition of the Houses of Kannadigas, the Minister said the treatment meted out to the delegation was not good.

Urging the Union Government to take note of this anti-Kannadiga attitude of the Goa Government, Mr. Sindhia said the situation in that State would only worsen in the coming months. He said the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and himself would take up the issue with the Centre.

Jobs

Reiterating his stand against closing down or privatising any State public sector undertaking, the Minister said he would examine how best the land of the now-closed NGEF and the Mysore Lamps could be utilised to generate employment to Kannadigas.

But, he made it clear that the PSUs would not be revived.

The former Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, G.S. Siddalingiah, S. Chandrashekar, journalist, Soumyanath Swamiji of the Adichunchanagiri Math, spoke.
