Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, AUG. 22. All major roads in Sattenapalli town, which turned narrow following large-scale encroachments by petty traders, were cleared on Sunday in a major drive launched by the district police and the municipality. Sattenapalli would be the hub of activity during the Krishna Pushkaram, as majority of the traffic from Prakasam and Nalgonda districts by road and train would converge there to reach Amaravathi. Municipal authorities and police on Sunday cleared encroachments on five major roads in the town. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, J.S. Rama Rao, the Municipal Commissioner, Deve Singh, took the initiative to clear unauthorised kiosks on the Railway Station Road, SBI Road, Guntur-Macherla Road and the Old LIC Road so that all entry points into the town were free for traffic. There was not much of resistance from traders, but they wanted that alternative sites be given to them to set up kiosks.
