One-way rule

Sir, — The one-way rule on Raj Bhavan Road, particularly in front of the General Post Office, is observed more in breach at night. Taxis, sometimes even trucks, are driven at break-neck speed violating the one-way rule and posing a great danger to the two-wheeler riders. What makes it glaring is that this should be happening only a few yards away from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic). I hope the traffic police launch a drive to check this. The Government should also enact a law that allows the police or the Regional Transport Officer to cancel the registration and confiscate the vehicles that violate one-way rule at night.

Platform fault

Sir, — When trains bound for Hubli, especially 585/581 Bangalore-Hubli and 597 Harihar-Hubli passengers trains, stop at Karajgi, a few coaches come to a halt beyond the length of the platform. This makes boarding and alighting difficult. Moreover, the platform is not of the right height. The authorities concerned should take steps to solve this problem.

Bus pass rate

Sir, — There was speculation that the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will increase the price of daily bus passes to Rs. 30. There was a demand to make the passes valid in Pushpak, Janapriyavahini, Parisara Vahini and Grameena Sarige services also. I convey my regards to the BMTC for fulfilling this demand after increasing the rate to Rs. 25.

Palace upkeep

Sir, — The Mysore Palace is still the most important tourist attraction in the city. The huge paintings and other works of art in the palace are all masterpieces and priceless treasures representing a significant part of our heritage. It will be useful if the date and year of the creating of the paintings and the names of the artists are displayed.

This information is made available in leaflets or brochures. Regarding the upkeep of the premises, one feels that it deserves better professional attention. The "residential museum" adjoining the palace leaves much to be desired. Everything there appears to be kept in a callous and indifferent manner. The whole museum needs to be spruced up. Steps have to be taken to ensure better preservation of the collection to prevent its deterioration.
