E.U. bans Malaysian poultry
BRUSSELS,
AUG. 23.
The European Union extended its ban on imports of live Asian poultry and affected poultry products to include Malaysia after a virulent strain of avian influenza was detected in the southeast Asian country, officials said on Monday.
The ban also covers exports from Malaysia of feathers and pet birds, the European Commission said. Poultry meat that has been heat-treated to kill the bird flu virus is still allowed, but the E.U. imports only relatively small amounts of such meat from Malaysia and none so far this year, officials said.
