BANGALORE, AUG. 23. It should be pay back time for the host, Karnataka, which was at the receiving end in three finals last year in the South Zone inter-state badminton championship which gets underway at the Karnataka Badminton Association stadium here on Tuesday. In the last edition, Karnataka, lost to AP in the men's final to Kerala in the women's final; and went down again to AP in the girls' final. But on home courts here, Karnataka will be looking forward to put up a winning show, especially in the men's and women's sections. The State banks heavily on Rohan Caslteino, an up and coming star on the circuit, who will be backed by juniors, Utsav Prakash and V. Amar and there is also strong doubles combination in Ajit Wijetilak and Jose George. Aditi Biswas and the promising youngster, G.M. Nischitha spearhead the Karnataka's challenge in women's section. Andhra Pradesh is certainly is the team to beat in the women's and girls' sections with country's top junior Saina Nehwal being their trump card. Kerala's men's squad looks good with Thomas Kurien, K.A. Anish, besides doubles exponents like Joy T. Antony, Jaseel P. Ismail, Sanve Thomad and George Thomas in its ranks. Aparna Balan is Kerala's key player in the women's section. Tamil Nadu has Siddarth Jain, but his presence alone is not going to make its fortune. The winners of the South Zone inter-state meet, boys and girls, will represent the Zone in the junior National inter-state championship at Goa in November. The men's and women's champion teams will contest in the senior National inter-state championship at Jamshedpur in January, 2005. B.S. Bholse, from Pune will be the chief referee of the tournament. Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister, will inaugurate championship.
