LUCKNOW, AUG. 23. The Congress today alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo, Mulayam Singh Yadav, was unduly favouring a particular college by allocating huge grants even as the State was reeling under drought. Handing over documents to reporters here, the UP Congress chief spokesperson, Akhilesh Pratap Singh, claimed that Mr Yadav had allocated Rs 35 crore to Chaudhury Charan Singh Mahavidyalaya (degree college) in his home district of Etawah. ``While one college got Rs 35 crore, it would have been logical to divide the amount to open 180 new colleges,'' he said. He said the Chief Minister's brother Shivpal Singh was the chairman of the said college and people's money was being distributed amongst the members of Mr Yadav's clan. Quoting official documents, Mr.Singh further claimed that the amount was sanctioned from the State Contingency Fund. The Contingency Fund is used to meet emergency financial expenditure when the House in not in session. ``Farmers were committing suicide and the Chief Minister was distributing State contingency fund for colleges being run by his family members,'' he lamented. He said while the State was reeling under a severe financial crunch where the debt had mounted to a whopping Rs 1.25 lakh crore, the ruling SP was ``making all out efforts to empty coffers.'' UNI
