TDP blasts Centre, State Government

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, AUG. 23. The Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) today launched a twin attack against the functioning of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre and the Congress-Telengana Rashtra Samiti Government in Andhra Pradesh charging that both Governments had failed to provide any direction.

"What has the UPA Government given to the country? After being in office for three months, the inflation is touching 8 per cent, increased the price of petrol and diesel twice and prices of essential commodities was going up by the day'', the TDPP leader, K. Yerrannaidu, said here at a press conference attended by party MPs.

The party said even though the Manmohan Singh Government has been in office for three months, the Government has yet to introduce any legislation. The charge that the Opposition's stalling of proceedings in Parliament had affected work, he said, was not proper since the previous National Democratic Alliance Government did legislative work even when the Congress-led Opposition had adopted similar tactics.

He said at a time when the situation in Manipur was tense and three Indians were being held as hostages in Iraq for nearly a month, the All India Congress Committee held a meeting to showcase and remind the people of the "contribution'' of five generations of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.

The party was also critical of the remarks by Union Minister, A. Narendra, against the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy, and said the comment was condemnable.

Turning attention to the State Government which completed 100 days in office, he said, it was not being run properly and the Congress has yet to demonstrate it was working to implement its electoral promises. He said according to reports in newspapers, transfers and postings were being done for a consideration.

The State Government has not been able to deliver on promises even for the farm sector. The number of suicides of farmers and weavers had gone up ever since the Reddy Government assumed office and the "helpline'' for farmers had turned into "helpless'' line. He charged the State Government with being vindictive with a series of probes being announced and violence against TDP had resulted in death of 27 workers during the period.

Those who attended the conference included, C. Ramachandraiah, Laljan Basha, R. Chandrashekar Reddy, S. Ramamuni Reddy, K. Rama Mohana Rao, Vanga Geeta, N.P. Durga,M. Jaganath and D.K. Adikesavulu.
