Rain continues to disrupt normal life

SHIMLA, AUG. 23. Normal life was disrupted in various parts of Himachal Pradesh today following widespread heavy rain during the past 24 hours.

Shimla and its surrounding areas were lashed by heavy rain since last night, bringing down the minimum temperature in the region to 15 degree Celsius.

The capital town recorded 27.2 mm rainfall till this afternoon.

Heavy rains were also reported from Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Hamirpur and Solan districts.

Flood situation was caused by continuous rains in some villages in Paonta tehsil in Sirmaur district.

A report from Hamirpur said water level in small and big rivulets flowing through the district rose alarmingly due to rains. The road traffic on various parts of the district was badly hit due to accumulation of huge debris on roads.

However, farmers in the region were happy as the rain was considered beneficial for the growth of the maize and the paddy crops.

Meanwhile, the Hindustan-Tibet road, which was blocked at Bhagal nullah near Tapri in Kinnaur district last evening, was opened today at about 11 am

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains lashed several places in north India today.

Ambala received 35 mm of rain, Hisar had 13 mm, Karnal 28.3 mm, Kalka 15 mm, Panchkula 6 mm, Bhiwani 20 mm, Ballabgarh 2 mm, Taouru 75 mm, Nuh 10 mm, Ferozepur Jirkha 10 mm, Sohana 15 mm, Punhana 30 mm, Nagina 20 mm, Panipat 62 mm, Kaithal 17 mm, Rohtak 30 mm, Sonepat 19 mm, Gohana 45 mm, Ganaur 45 mm, Khar Khoda 70 mm, Faridabad 9 mm and Bahudargarh received 35 mm of rain.

Rain lashed Chandigarh (21 mm) throughout the day and the mercury dropped by a few degrees, according to the Meteorological department here.

In Punjab, Patiala was lashed by 39 mm of rain, Shahpur Kandi area had 13 mm of rain and Nangal Dam received 5.2 mm of rain.UNI/PTI
