Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, AUG. 23. The Vijayawada city police have launched a manhunt for four persons who allegedly posed as policemen and gang raped a woman after kidnapping her. Two of the accused have been taken into custody. According to a complaint lodged by an autorickshaw driver, Rajesh, four persons moving on two motorcycles stopped his vehicle while he was returning home to Vambay Colony in Ajitsingh Nagar at around 10 p.m. on Sunday with the woman, who had hired the auto. Incidentally the woman is his neighbour. They were returning from Srinivasa theatre in Kandrika area. They were intercepted by four persons who claimed to be `plainclothesmen'. They asked Rajesh and the woman to leave the vehicle on the roadside and get on to the motorcycles and took them towards Nunna area. After some distance, they stopped and asked Rajesh to get his vehicle to Nunna centre.
Culprits flee
Rajesh returned only to find that the culprits had fled. He lodged a complaint with the Payakapuram police. The police searched the fields between Kandrika and Nunna and managed to nab two persons, an auto mechanic and a lorry driver. The Circle Inspector, Nageswara Rao, is investigating.
