MADURAI, AUG. 23. A door-to-door enumeration of cattle head and fouls has been going on in the city from August 20. The Corporation Commissioner, A. Karthik, has urged the residents to give details to the enumerators about the domestic animals, such as goat, sheep, cow and pig and poultry birds. Over 250 self-help group members have been employed for the work.
Private parking
lots warned
The Corporation Commissioner, A. Karthik, has warned of action against those running illegal parking lots in the city. The Corporation has authorised only 14 parking lots for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and tourist vehicles. Those run by private persons were in violation of the rules, and action, including seizure of vehicles, will be initiated against them, he said in a statement. He said those parking lots functioning outside the Mattuthavani bus stand had been removed, and the people should not make use of them.
Noon-meal centres
Over 100 noon-meal centres out of 357 functioning in the city will be repaired at a cost of Rs. 1.30 crores. During an inspection of wards 22 and 24 in the west zone recently, Mr. Karthik informed the Mayor, C. Ramachandran, that allocation was made, and works started. The Mayor inspected 65 civic works being implemented in the two wards.
Grievances day
The Mayor, C. Ramachandran, and the Commissioner (in charge), C. Rajamani, will inspect civic amenities in wards 37 and 63 of the south zone tomorrow morning. Later, the Mayor will chair a meeting to review the functioning of streetlights in the zone, and hear grievances from the residents, a press release said.
