Cloudy sky

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershower on Tuesday. Some areas may experience heavy rain.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Monday was 29.5 and 25.2 degree Celsius, while Palam recorded a maximum of 28.3 and a minimum of 24.5 degree Celsius. Safdarjung received a rainfall of 13 mm and Palam 4.6 mm.

The maximum and minimum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 97 per cent and 83 per cent, while at Palam it was 99 per cent and 89 per cent respectively.

Shot dead

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. A 50-year-old businessman was shot dead by three unidentified young men near his house at Kirti Nagar, in West Delhi today. According to police, Suresh Satija, a resident of Ramesh Nagar in Kirti Nagar, had reached his house and parked his WagonR around 8-45 p.m., when three young men came in another car and shot at Satija from a close range. The trio then escaped. An injured Satija was rushed to Kalra hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Stabbed

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. A 23-year-old man was found stabbed to death at Bawana in North-West Delhi today. According to the police, the body of Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, who used to drive a taxi, was found on road towards Sector-24, Rohini, this morning. There were stab injuries on his abdomen and neck.

Car overturns

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. A 22-year-old man died on the spot and three others sustained injuries when their car overturned on Noida Expressway in South Delhi today.

According to the police, four persons, Dalbir Singh, a resident of Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi, his friend Hitesh, Tina and another woman -- all in their early 20s -- were returning home after attending a night long party in Noida in the early hours of today. Around 4 a.m., when the car came on Noida Expressway, Hitesh, who was driving the car, apparently lost control and the vehicle overturned. Dalbir, son of a businessman, died on the spot. The other three have been admitted to Apollo Hospital and the condition of one of them is reported to be serious.

Arrested

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. A former student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College was arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly molesting a second year student of the College at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi today.

According to the police, Paramjeet Singh reached the College around 5-30 p.m. and apparently wanted to talk to the girl, a student of B.Com (second year), but she refused. Upon this, Paramjeet allegedly caught her by the hand and tried to drag her. The girl then raised an alarm which alerted a police constable deployed nearby who rounded up Paramjeet.

Busted

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. At least 12 women, including three managers, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly running prostitution rackets under the garb of massage parlours.

According to the police, raids were conducted on three massage parlours, Wills Beauty Saloon and Beauty Point at Pitampura (North-West Delhi), Newly Open Beauty Point in Peeragarhi Chowk (West Delhi) on Sunday. The arrested women included three managers of the parlours. The owners of these parlours have been identified as Ramesh, Titu and Mohammad Naeem. A hunt is on to nab them.

Most of the arrested girls were from lower economic strata of the society.
