BJP threatens `fitting reply' to Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA, AUG. 24. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha president and MLA, C.T. Ravi, on Tuesday accused the Government of shielding traitors and anti-national forces while seeking the arrest of "patriots" such as the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti.

Mr. Ravi was addressing the party workers as part of the "Yuva Jagruthi Andolana" here.

The MLA said that the Yuva Morcha of his party was prepared to take the situation arising out of the Hubli Idgah Maidan issue as a challenge and would give a fitting reply to the Congress-led coalition Government in the State.

He said the Congress was out to appease the minorities if the reported decision of the Andhra Government in this regard was any indication. He said that the youth should be aware of such appeasement policies that would lead to the disintegration of the country.

Mr. Ravi alleged that systematic attempts were being made to glorify the extremist groups that were trying to create political instability.

K.S. Eshwarappa and M.P. Renukaradhya, MLAs; Trivikram Joshi, member of the national committee of the BJP Yuva Morcha; Girish Mattennavar, youth leader, and Dattari, district morcha president, were present.

Hubli chalo

Mr. Ravi said the Yuva Morcha activists were on a "Hubli chalo" mission to extend moral support to Uma Bharti.

He said the Yuva Morcha would launch a Statewide agitation to protest against the political motive of the Congress. He alleged that the coalition Government had failed to provide any credible governance in view of the growing differences between the coalition parties.

He said the complications being created in the admissions to the professional courses had driven meritorious and poor students to desperation.

Allocation

The MLA lleged that the Government had neglected the development of Malnad region if the measly amount set apart in the Budget was any indication. He said while the Government was expected to release Rs. 18.5 crores to the Malnad Area Development Board, it had released Rs. 13 crores.

Naxalite menace

Taking exception to the offer made by the Chief Minister N.Dharam Singh to the Naxalite leaders in the Malnad region for talks, Mr. Ravi said it would send the wrong signals that the Government was supporting their activities.

He alleged that certain organisations had been extending their support to Naxalites.
