Kollam decked up in yellow for Guruvarsham-150

KOLLAM, AUG. 24. Kollam city is all decked up in yellow for the launch of the year-long national-level Guruvarsham-150 celebrations being organised by the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam to mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Sree Narayana Guru.

The United Progressive Alliance chairperson and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, will inaugurate the celebrations on August 29. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, will preside over the function.

The Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary, P.K. Narayana Panicker, and the Assembly Speaker, Vakkom Purushothaman, will give the keynote address.

The SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, told a press conference here today that more than three lakh Yogam activists and members of the community were expected to attend the inaugural function to be held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.

During the course of the year, celebrations will be organised in all the districts of the State, other cities in the country and at selected locations abroad.

He said the Yogam president, C.K. Vidyasagar, had been formally invited for the function.
