Italy upsets U.S., enters final

ATHENS, AUG. 24. Manuela Zanchi scored with two seconds in regulation as Italy upset the United States 6-5 on Tuesday and advanced to the final of the women's Olympic water polo tournament.

The Italians scored after 96 seconds via Cinzia Ragusa, but the Americans responded with three goals to lead 3-1.

Brenda Villa fired from close range, then Heather Petri and Margaret Dingledein added goals for the Americans. Alexandra Araujo converted on a 6-on-5 advantage to reduce the United States' halftime lead to 3-2. Thalia Munro scored the only goal of the third period to give the Americans a 4-2 lead before the Italians replied with three goals to take a 5-4 lead with 2:06 remaining. — AP
