Onam celebrations from tomorrow

PATHANAMTHITTA, AUG. 24. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will be organising Onam celebrations in Pathanamthitta from August 26 to 28.

In a statement issued here today the DTPC secretary, Varghese Punnen, said that the l MLA, K. K. Nair, would inaugurate the celebrations at the Gym Palace auditorium at 11 a.m. on August 26.

The District Panchayat president, K. K. Royson, will preside over the inaugural function. Francis George, MP, will deliver the keynote address.

C. S. Sujatha, Chengara Surendran, both MPs and the MLAs, Adoor Prakash, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Elizabeth Mammen, Malethu Saraladevi, Raju Abraham, Joseph M.Puthusserry and K.K.Shaju will also address the function.

Competitions

The DTPC secretary said that competitions in Athappookkalam, Thiruvathira, Vanchippattu and Onappattu would be held in the afternoon.

The art festival to be held in the evening will be inaugurated by the Additional District Magistrate, N. Vijayan. A magic show by Samraj will also be held later.

A folk song concert will be held on August 27 evening and cinematic dance, ganamela and mimics parade by the Cochin Kalabhavan would be the attraction on August 28 evening, according to Mr. Punnen.
