ALAPPUZHA, AUG. 24. Tension prevailed in Alappuzha town following attacks on houses by two groups of armed miscreants at Valiyakulam in the town early this morning. As many as six houses were fully destroyed and four houses were partially damaged in the violence. The police said the miscreants attacked the houses at around 3 a.m. A group of people, later, blocked the traffic and forcefully downed the shutters of shops. The police helped to open some shops and restored the vehicular traffic. The district administration held a meeting of representatives of political parties and various religions in the evening.
