THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 24. A conference of Ministers and officials, chaired by the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, today resolved to take strong steps to prevent price rise during Onam in view of the truckers' strike. Stern action will be taken against those hoarding goods. Though the Government would not take any action against the truckers, cases will be taken against those fomenting trouble. The conference was of the view that the strike had not significantly affected the movement of goods into the State. None was stopping lorries coming from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Rules on transport of goods like weight restrictions will be relaxed to ensure that there would be no shortage of essential commodities. Mini-lorries and other vehicles will be allowed to bring in goods. Transportation of vegetables through Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses will also be permitted. The Collectors will be directed to convene meetings of traders to inform them of the measures proposed to be taken against hoarding. The Chief Secretary will issue a circular detailing the measures needed in this regard.
