By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 24. Even as seven persons reportedly committed suicide in Bangalore in the past 24 hours, in neighbouring Kolar district, a woman and her two children hanged themselves to death, according to the police.

In Bangalore, four of the victims were men. Shashi Kumar (23) hanged himself in his house in Rajajinagar 4th Block in Bangalore on Monday night.

According to the police, Shashi Kumar was worried that his parents might not be able to raise money to get him admission to MBA course. Kanniappan and Selvi found the body of their son hanging by a sari from the ceiling fan in his bedroom on Tuesday morning.

Kumar, a commerce graduate, was placed 1,740 in the Common Admission Test rank-list of Visvesvaraya Technological University for admission to MBA course, and he was not sure of getting a seat. Admissions are scheduled from Wednesday.

The police said he had reportedly called a private college which asked him to pay Rs. 5 lakhs for admission. His parents had assured him that they would get him admission. Before he retired to his bedroom on Monday, they had asked him not to worry about the fees.

In his suicide note, Shashi Kumar said he alone was responsible for his suicide, and wished his friends and teachers well. He wanted a simple funeral. The Rajajinagar Police took the body to Victoria hospital for post-mortem. A case has been filed.

Rumours spread that Shashi Kumar had been seeking admission to the engineering or the medical course.

The protestors outside the Common Entrance Test Cell even carried his portraits along with those of the two girls who had committed suicide following difficulties in getting admission to these courses.
